There is a defence for employees who do not own the vehicle themselves, are driving the vehicle in the course of their employment and have no knowledge that the vehicle is not insured nor any reason to believe that the vehicle is not insured. For company cars, the court will expect the business owner to have a system for recording who is driving a vehicle at a particular time.
